The Pit Team held a meeting in November. England lost that night, and so did we! So we intend to hold another meeting in January. We have sent a Christmas Card to the people we've talked to, with a little poem!
"Just to let you all know
That the Pit is still on to be extraordinary
And come rain, hail or snow
There’ll be a meeting in January
So we’ll be in touch in the New Year.
In the meantime, be of good cheer!"
What's 'The Pit?'
The Pit is a piece of waste land off Love Road, Lowestoft. It used to be a sand pit (hence its unofficial name), presumably used as a source of sand for builders. Then it was a landfill site. Then it became a play park, which was burnt down. Now it’s a scruffy piece of grassland.
Lowestoft Together, The FairShare Trust, Lowestoft Volunteer Centre and the WDC Community Cohesion team have got together to try to find out what local residents think should be done with The Pit. They delivered a leaflet, and then spent a couple of evenings' door-knocking, getting people’s opinions. The response was very positive, with nearly everyone having an idea or more.
Lots of people said they wanted to be involved in some way. One idea is to have an event of some kind on The Pit itself. We’ll keep you posted.
