26 February 2010 - Minister Urges Charities To Lobby Local Councils
Communities Secretary John Denham has advised third sector groups to lobby their local councils following the announcement of new rules allowing councils to scrutinise public service delivery. A Government-backed Private Members Bill will give councils the power to investigate all local public service spending in their area. This will allow third sector groups to campaign to local councillors directly, requesting they use their powers of scrutiny to examine issues.

On Sunday 9th May the East Anglian Dragon Boat Festival returns to Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad for what promises to be the best year yet!
The Festival is a great chance for organisations and groups to try something completely different, promote themselves to a large local audience, network with local companies and potential clients and raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) or the charity of their choice. I am writing to let you know about the launch of the sixth year of our People’s Millions programme, an exciting partnership between the Big Lottery Fund and ITV in which the public vote for the community project they want to receive funding. Voluntary and community organisations, schools and local authority can apply for grants of up to £50,000.

Young Suffolk FLASHeMAIL - Building Safer & Stronger Communities Seminar
8th March in Kesgrave or 10th March in Lowestoft 9 to 3pm
These two workshops in Suffolk are to raise awareness around building safer and stronger communities, particularly looking at how we protect vulnerable children, young people and adults from all forms of extremism
The main aim is to help raise awareness and to inform those present the local arrangements in Suffolk to manage risk around these vulnerable groups

Young Suffolk has arranged with Alice Redfearn, Suffolk County Council Children and Young People’s Directorate Contact Point Implementation Manager a 2 hour briefing session for medium and large VCS organisations to update them on the latest National and Local developments about the Common Assessment Framework (CAF), eCAf and Contact Point. Sorrell Grove and Carol Davey will also be joining the session, representing the Integrated Teams Leadership Group on the programme.

Trusts weathering the storm…for now
How is the recession affecting grantmaking from trusts and foundations?  DSC research shows that many top trusts and foundations are giving more money despite a drop in income, while others still maintain the same level of funding.
As a group, the top 400 grant-making trusts and foundations in the UK are continuing to increase their giving, despite a fall in the collective value of their assets of around £4 billion. Pleaseclick here for more information.

BIG £400K TO BROADEN REACH OF SUFFOLK BEFRIENDING SCHEME                                                                                                Suffolk Befriending Scheme, (SBS) a local registered charity has been awarded a grant of over £410,000 by the Big Lottery Fund. JUMP-Junior2adult unbiased mentoring project has new premises at 115 London Road North and is up and running and taking on new referrals. A conference room is available for hire with charges as follows:
2 hours - £20 for voluntary sector, £25 for Stat/business
Half day - £30 for Voluntary sector, £35 for stat/business
Full day - £45 for voluntary sector, £65 for stat/business
